DOING THE RIGHT THING IN THE WRONG WAY: A REFLECTIVE VIEW OF OBI CUBANA'S MOTHER'S BURIAL AT OBA, ANAMBRA STATE

I was laughing as I concluded to use those words as the title of this piece; simply because I am sure many would probably be turned off immediately by my choice of words for the title and presume what they think I might have to say. Well, I would advise you to take a chill, read till the end and you might probably be shocked that what you think might be the content of this piece is not how I have presented it to be. Just calmly read, check the pictures, watch the videos before you crucify me in your heart or with your comments or even applaud me on this reflection. Late Madam Ezinne Uche Iyiegbu Over the last one week or thereabout, the major news trending on media platforms especially among Nigerians has been about a burial ceremony that took place on July 16th, 2021 in Oba, Anambra state of an aged woman who had died in the year 2020. Well, the media atmosphere is not about the life of the woman buried but about the befitting burial ceremony granted her by her son, Obi Iyiegbu, popu

AN AVOIDABLE OUTCOME: THE TRAGIC END OF A FATHER IN THE HANDS OF 'HIS CHILD' (A REFLECTION ON CHIDINMA & ATAGA'S LOVE DEBACLE)

Before you start thinking if I made a mistake in the title I chose for this article as per the use of the short phrase " his child", I can confidently tell you that those words were deliberately used. Yes, the story may not have been that of a father whose life was lost in the hands of his biological child but you'll have to agree that the age difference between the victim and the suspect shows the possibility of the former capable of being a father to the latter in an ideal society. Anyway, our world is not even a sane one anymore, hence anomalies happen every day.                                                  So, earlier today, a friend drew my attention to a piece of trending news on social media and was surprised when I told her I haven't heard about or seen any strange thing yet (as I was yet to even surf the internet for the day to know what's going on), after briefly narrating what the issue was, I became more interested in getting further detail: he

THE GOAL OF THE TWITTER BAN AND THE WAY FORWARD FOR NIGERIANS WITHIN THE COUNTRY Many quotes were made by one time president of Uganda, Idi Amin Dada but the one I will never forget is his quote in relation to freedom of expression. He said: " There is freedom of speech, but I cannot guarantee freedom after speech". This quote expresses the intentions of a dictator whom many agreeably saw Idi Amin to be during his reign. Well, I am not here to write about Idi Amin rather, I am about to write about a modern dictator not in the military regalia like Idi Amin (even though Buhari was once in the military regalia too) - the President of Nigeria! The current situation with regards twitter ban in Nigeria simply suggests that the rights and freedom of Nigerians is not valued anymore. Sadly, that has been the case for many years. For the President of a nation to agree to the suggestion of his Minister of Information & Culture (Lai Mohammed) and some other loyalists of his to ban

MEDICINE AFTER DEATH: THE FINAL PILL FOR INIOBONG UMOREN (A REFLECTIVE OPINION) How time flies! they often say, as we often hope and wish that the memories of past events that flashes through our mind should be of something good and not what will tear our heart in sorrow. Well, sadly, the good, the bad and the ugly happen to humanity and then all these becomes memories.  It was exactly a month ago, a young pretty Akwa Ibom lady, Iniobong Umoren filled with hope and aspiration tweeted at 2:24pm via her twitter handle, pleading for job and sincerely hoping she'll get one soonest from just one person amongst millions of Nigerians on the social media platform, before she would proceed for her NYSC program. Alas! the only person who was 'willing' to give her a job at the time was actually willing to take her life and blot her out from this world. Successfully, the young man Uduak Akpan who showed interest to give her a job on the media platform took away her life and killed al
